Meet Seath
Seath McSheffrey
Apprentice & Guitar Instructor
Music has been a driving force in Seath McSheffrey’s life from an early age. Growing up with a father who constantly had music playing, Seath was quickly drawn to the heavier sounds of bands like Mötley CrĂ¼e, Godsmack, and Limp Bizkit. At just 12 years old, he received his first electric guitar and instantly fell in love with the instrument. While he initially taught himself a few basic songs using YouTube and online tabs, his playing truly reached the next level when he began formal lessons at Senchant’s Art of Teaching.
As his musical tastes grew heavier, Seath found himself frequently playing in drop tunings, though he still struggled to reach the extreme lows of his favorite bands. This led him to acquire a seven-string guitar. While he loved the extended range, the extra string occasionally felt overwhelming. Seeking guidance, he consulted his instructor, Bernie, who introduced him to “mirror tuning” on a standard six-string. This unique setup provided even more range than a seven-string without the added complexity.
Seath fully embraced mirror tuning, using it to play his favorite heavy tracks and eventually applying Bernie’s teachings to write his own original music. Eager to step out of his comfort zone, he eventually revisited the seven-string guitar and discovered a newfound appreciation for the instrument. His pursuit of an even lower, heavier sound ultimately led him to an eight-string guitar, which quickly became his primary instrument.
Playing such extended ranges brought new challenges, particularly keeping the extreme low-end frequencies from sounding muddy. Drawing on years of tips and tricks learned from Bernie, Seath embarked on a journey to dial in the perfect tone for his eight-string. Through continuous dedication and mentorship, he successfully learned how to properly mix his guitar recordings and taught himself the art of programming and mixing drums, rounding out his skills as a complete musician and producer.
