Bernard “Senchant™” Birgenheier
Guitar, Bass, Ukulele and Mandolin Teacher
Bernard “Bernie” Birgenheier is the founder of Senchant’s Art of Teaching and a dedicated guitar, bass, ukulele, and mandolin instructor. Since beginning his teaching career in 1991, he has taught more than 40,000 private lessons, helping children, teens, and adults discover the joy of making music.
Bernie’s love of music began during his childhood in St. Paul, Minnesota. With the encouragement of his family, he grew from performing at home to playing in school bands and eventually touring professionally. Those early experiences taught him how meaningful the right support can be—something he now strives to give every student.
After several years as a touring musician, Bernie moved to Boston to attend Berklee College of Music, where he studied Guitar Performance and Film Scoring. His education and professional performing experience gave him a deep understanding of music, but teaching became his greatest passion.
Bernie believes that students learn best when they feel comfortable, encouraged, and excited about what they are playing. He welcomes students of all ages and experience levels, including complete beginners. Lessons are tailored to each student’s interests, learning style, and personal goals, allowing them to progress at a pace that builds both skill and confidence.
Whether a student wants to learn a favorite song, develop strong musical fundamentals, prepare for a performance, or simply enjoy a new hobby, Bernie makes lessons engaging, supportive, and rewarding. His goal is to help students become capable, creative musicians while developing an appreciation for music that can last a lifetime.
“Our key is to enable each student to discover their greatest potential” is more than a motto—it is the foundation of Bernie’s approach to teaching.
